Dr.  Tanaka was born in Hamamatsu, Japan and grew up in an acupuncture clinic owned by her mother and her sisters. She came to the United States in the year 2000 to study. She majored in psychology at San Francisco State University, and after graduation she worked in organizations for developmentally disabled adults. Influenced by her mother and sisters, her desire to help people using alternative medicine grew.

In 2005, she attended Life Chiropractic College West, and enjoyed the intensive chiropractic study both academically and clinically. Her internship exposed her to a wide range of age groups, and every kind of health problem, from minor neck pain to cerebral palsy. She attended seminars covering topics including nutrition, neurology, emotions and health, as well as animal chiropractic, along with chiropractic adjusting techniques.

Dr. Tanaka is an enthusiastic student of dance. In Japan, she studied Ballet for 13 years. Since coming to the Bay Area, she has studied Jazz, Modern, African Haitian, Salsa, Flamenco and Hip-hop. This has led her to develop an interest in treating dancers for injuries and injury prevention.

Dr. Tanaka is fluent in Japanese and English and speaks conversational Spanish. To relax, she enjoys listening to music from all over the world, and cooking dishes from different countries.
